Trezor.io/Start — Hardware Wallet Setup

Your guide to initializing your Trezor device for maximum crypto security.

1. Connect your new Trezor

Begin by connecting your Trezor hardware wallet to your computer using the original USB cable. The device display will turn on and prompt you to visit the Trezor start page for setup. Ensure you are visiting the correct, official site and not a lookalike page.

2. Install Trezor Suite

Trezor Suite is the desktop and web interface that manages wallet setup, firmware installation, and crypto management. Installing Suite ensures secure communication with your device and simplifies firmware updates. The first time you open Suite, it will automatically detect your device and guide you through initialization.

3. Create or recover a wallet

If this is your first setup, choose “Create new wallet” to generate a new recovery seed. Write the seed words carefully on paper — never take screenshots or store them online. If restoring an existing wallet, select “Recover wallet” and enter your seed using the device interface only, not on your computer keyboard.

4. Update firmware

Before using your wallet, ensure the firmware is up to date. Firmware updates include important security enhancements. The device will display prompts for approval before and after updates — read them carefully and confirm only if they match expected firmware information.

5. Enable security features

Protect your wallet with a strong PIN. Consider adding a passphrase for extra protection; it acts as an extra layer of encryption that keeps your assets safe even if your recovery phrase is compromised. Remember your passphrase — it cannot be recovered if lost.

Completing these steps ensures your Trezor is ready for secure use. Keep your seed safe, and use your hardware wallet only on trusted devices.
